An exercise to help you work towards clearer speech
Stick a cork in it!
Find something to read out loud. Read it out once.
Then take a cork and place it in your mouth horizontally holding it in place between your teeth. Don’t grip too hard – just enough pressure to keep it in place near the front of your mouth.
Now read your document out loud a couple of times with the cork in place, speaking very slowly and shaping every syllable of each word in an exaggerated manner.
Now remove the cork, read the passage again and see if you can feel and hear the difference. You may note that you are working harder to shape the words and that the sound will be fuller and easier to listen to.
